Since 2006, Paul has been employed as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist at Rampton High Security Hospital, where he has worked extensively across mental illness and personality disorder services at all levels of security. He served for several years as the medical lead for the hospital’s Personality Disorder Service, overseeing complex clinical care for high-risk patients. In addition to his clinical practice, Paul has undertaken the judicial role of Medical Member of the First Tier Tribunal (Mental Health) since 2012.

Paul specialises in the assessment and management of severe and enduring mental disorders, including personality disorder and complex mental illness, particularly within high-security settings. He has a strong interest in forensic psychiatry at the interface of law and medicine, with significant expertise in risk assessment, treatment planning, and expert psychiatric testimony.

Paul provides clinical supervision and training to multidisciplinary teams within high-security forensic services, supporting the development of best practice in the assessment and management of complex mental disorders. He also contributes to the training of psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals, with a focus on mental health law, risk assessment, and the treatment of personality disorder and severe mental illness.
