
Meet Dr Paul Egleston
Dr Paul Egleston is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist with over 25 years of experience in the assessment, treatment, and management of individuals with complex mental health needs. He qualified in Medicine in 1998 (MB ChB) and became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 2002. Paul received his Certificate of Completion of Training in Forensic Psychiatry in 2007 and is included on the General Medical Council Specialist Register. He is also approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 as having special expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorder.

Since 2006, Paul has been employed as a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist at Rampton High Security Hospital, where he has worked extensively across mental illness and personality disorder services at all levels of security. He served for several years as the medical lead for the hospital’s Personality Disorder Service, overseeing complex clinical care for high-risk patients. In addition to his clinical practice, Paul has undertaken the judicial role of Medical Member of the First Tier Tribunal (Mental Health) since 2012.

Paul provides clinical supervision and training to multidisciplinary teams within high-security forensic services, supporting the development of best practice in the assessment and management of complex mental disorders. He also contributes to the training of psychiatrists and other healthcare professionals, with a focus on mental health law, risk assessment, and the treatment of personality disorder and severe mental illness.

He has extensive expertise across secure psychiatric services, including both mental illness and personality disorder pathways, and has provided clinical leadership within high-security settings for many years. Paul’s specific interests include the assessment of complex psychiatric presentations, personality disorder, and the interface between mental health and risk of serious offending. In addition to his clinical practice, he has significant experience in preparing independent psychiatric reports for courts and parole hearings, as well as acting as a medical member of the First Tier Tribunal (Mental Health).
